It took almost two years to recover from losing my Sophie. Who knew? About 5 months ago an artist friend asked if I was ready to take on a new dog. Dee had Lola and Lola was carrying around the tiny old dog that lived in the house and Dee was afraid Lola would hurt him. I said we’d try her out and bring her over.

Please meet Lola!!! One year old Newfoundland and quite a handful. She makes me laugh daily and made me realize how empty I had felt from loosing my Muse.  Lola gets along well with the boys, Sammy and Ozzie so life is good. Noisy at times, but good.

I’ve been doing plein air and studio paintings. You can see at http://www.sheilawedegis.com .  Then last July we traveled back to Scotland and now…(building up for the big news).. I’ll be starting a new blog about us preparing to sell everything in our house, but an RV and travel the country with Hubby, dogs and paints!! It will be “Painting Across America” . Hopefully I can get it up and running soon so please keep an eye out for us!  (that one I’ll be doing daily for sure!! with updates, videos and the whole shooting match!)

So with that I’ll send this out and I’ll be back on the new blog soon!!

Warmly, Sheila and the Gang!!!

She is still with me but I’m planning ahead. My Muse.

So I mentioned that my goal is to unload everything, buy a 5th wheel, pack up and paint America. I’ve got it into the Universe and I just believe it’s all working. (just wish it would go faster)

We have a hurricane going up the west side of us but the bands are dumping rain and wind where we are. It’s a good day to cuddle  the coach and figure out new marketing ideas and work on the two books I need to finish from my other two projects. One is The Project of a Lifetime…(taking a lifetime) and the other our Labraventure to Scotland last year. That is the one I concentrated on today.

I started a Club for my Painting Across America art. It will be at the start mostly from Florida and South and North Carolina but hey, that is a start. Here is the deal.  For 1 year I am offering to members 30% off any paintings regardless of size. Members will also receive, each month, one small painting from my series. They usually are 6×8 or 5×7. Easy to frame. Then personal updates on what’s happening and what I am working on. The skinny!!! How much?? zillions??? Nope…All this for a year for $50.00.

How can you sign up?? Easy.. JOIN NOW!!!  Contact me…couldn’t get the paypal thing to show up. grrr  sophie@palm-spirit.com

A real rock star??? Well…sort of.  About a month ago I got an email from Ormond Memorial Museum of Art asking me, inviting me, to be part of their “Dog Days of Summer” exhibition!  Seriously???

I sent in a few images and 4 were chosen.  I was floored. That’s when my studio mates started calling me a Rock Star!!  A Museum asked me to be one of their 12 artists. Needless to say I was thrilled, AM thrilled. It hangs til August 19.

This past Friday night was the opening reception.  What to wear??? First I tried on a black shirt with frills and said, “ahhh. No”  I was beyond frillies. Then, a pair of white linen pants that I have never worn. They fit! I put on a white blouse, sheer and flowy, and thought, ahhhh, maybe.  Then I went on a search of long flowy skirts even though my closet is filled with long flowy skirts. I needed the perfect one for this opening.

The Labs? They sat on the bed watching. Ozzie, our youngest, chewed through the strap of one of my shirts and ended it’s run in the outfit race.

Thursday I had now clue what I was going to wear. I made long earrings from aluminum wire in the shape of a Lab and there I had my ear attire.  A scarf, silk, made on Spoonflower.com from one of my paintings was a definite. Two items ready.

I came home early from the studio and stopped at Marshals and as I walked in saw my perfect skirt. Long, black and tan stripes. Next I picked up a black top and a long SAC black bag and I had it!!!

I need to find an image of the whole getup!!   I was on a high!!! ROCK STAR!!!!!

The reception was great, people were fantastic and there were many!!! The Museum paid for a room at a wonderful resort right on the ocean and we had wine flowing.  Saturday, then we drove home to waving, leaping, wagging Labs.

Now back to the studio! My mates are great, still cheering, but where are the throngs? Why am I still needing to do laundry? Shouldn’t I be able to fly off in a Lear Jet to be with the fans?? What happened to the Paparazzi???  Ahhh…I see.

Reality…my life…I’m back. Don’t get me wrong..I’m loving it.  Rock Stars are just regular people.  So off I went to get 7 mixed media pieces framed and got a great deal. We are all getting ready for our Open House at our Studio and Gallery.  We are also putting together a blog where you can see all the art from our artists so as soon as that is finished I’ll post.

Off to feed the Lab!!! Oh wait…I hear them cheering!!!!! I guess I still am a rock star!!!!!

Last week a friend came to visit and brought her new 5 month old Cocker Spaniel.  Up until now Ozzie and Sammy have been connected at the proverbial hip. Enter, Artie.  Cute as a button.

Everyone sniffed, barked, growled at first then the dynamics changed. Ozzie became the big brother to Artie.  Ozzie’s appearance, as strange as that sounds, changed over night. He seemed older, more confident. They were inseparable and Sammy was lost.   That first night Sammy came into bed and rolled onto his back to sleep with his head, oh yes, on my pillow.  I crawled in, wiggling in to get a spot started to relax.  That’s when Sammy rolled and placed his head on my shoulder and his paw over the top of me.  That’s how he slept for the entire night.  I told Roger is a volcano erupted and we were suddenly  covered with lava that one day the future generations finding us would think we were into some weird stuff.

No, It was just Sammy’s sadness.  The next day Ozzie and Artie played all day and every so often Sam would try and interject himself in the group but they ignored him. Ozzie was in charge.  He’s on to being 6 months so I guess they need to rethink their relationship.

Artie left the other day and Ozzie went over to Sammy who, yes you guessed it, ignored him!

However, today, we have this!!

Life as we know it.  Maybe a rite of passage.  So, people say, dogs have no feelings, no sense. Really!.. Not what I saw this past week.  Ozzie, the young pup, carefree and insensitive and Sammy, depressed and in pain. Interesting week…and I had fun since my friend is an artist too.!

Tuesday and Plein air day… We all met at the Eau Gallie Yacht Basin and painted. Everyone faced the harbor but I faced the opposite way.. you’ll see why.

I need to finish it tomorrow but in the street a beautiful yellow dog is laying there and waiting for his master to come home. Much more interesting to me than a boat!!!   I used a palette knife with this piece and just had so much fun. I think I may be hooked!!!

Warmly,

Sheila

Today I joined the Plein air group here in our area. They meet once  week at a different location and we paint.

Today was at the park by the Causeway Bridge at the Inter-coastal waterway. About 7 artists in various spots around the park. I chose a spot near the water and started to paint a small area rather than a scene. Suddenly a beautiful white Crane flew in and stood on a rock right in front of me.  I grabbed a small brush and got him right into the painting before he flew away. He turned first and stared at me, turned again and relieved himself, then flew.

“A LITTLE CORNER OF MY WORLD”

I painted the panel first with a thin coating of red/orange acrylic so as I glazed the color would shine through. I was pleased with the first oil in a while.

I was so excited about being with other artists, I tend to be a hermit, painting and being outdoors that I put my setup in the back yard and painted again. This time with a painting knife.

My backyard at 5pm with Labs running amok.  The Bougainvillea grows up and over the roof and out front the tallest palm ever.  The yellow lemons and a huge Bird of Paradise to the right.  12″ x 9″ on stretched canvas.

Well I feel successful tonight. A good day!!!

Warmly, Sheila

Paper towels out the door then shredded, brushes chewed at the ends, a canvas with a huge puppy foot imbedded in it. EGADS!
I started back on ebay again selling works that have been here for over two years. Mostly Rescue work.  I put them on for next to nothing and in one day made close to $500.00. Now rethinking ebay and maybe just doing a series just for (shhhh. the money) I always do my best work so people will get a good painting and I’ll get out of debt and save for Scotland in May.!  Look for me on ebay as sophie316.

Keeping up with my painting a day..no so much this poor blog.  I;m writing everything down in a new leather bound, lime green, spiral notebook.  I’m actually keeping up with that. I even have a section entitled “Remember”  Having ADHD has it’s bonus moments. Great ideas flood in non stop, the down side??, shiny objects !  I’m easily distracted and lose my way.  So the new Lime green leather note book, and, new gel pen is working it’s magic.

CUDDLES  Day#8

Just laying there, snuggled under covers and a Lab curled up on my legs. That’s when it hit me, I forgot my blog.  I had been so excited to do three in a row because as you may or not know, for someone with ADHD, everything after that is usually forgotten.  sigh.

But on the happier side I an show you two paintings!!!

yes..day 5 was done previous. Long day.

Fun one tomorrow!   Warmly, Sheila
